And if you’re familiar with Grant and AI, you know that Grant comes across as a genuinely nice guy who shows a genuine passion for the Naval Academy and loves what he does.

Well, I’m here to tell you the truth from behind-the-scenes – it’s all true.

From the time Grant responded to my blind email to check in on him to the time I randomly ran into him and some of his crew outside the Graduate Hotel Annapolis to my hour or so chatting with him for the interview, he is everything you’ve come to know from his online persona. And as someone who has met and interviewed countless government officials, celebrities, and professional athletes, that is a rare thing, indeed.

Grant and I chatted for quite a while after we turned off the microphones and, I have to say, it was not much different that than the conversation you hear on the podcast. I felt like we were sitting at a bar, sharing a beer and just shooting the breeze. He shared some details about the next step in his Navy career, including a few things that made me laugh out loud. Above all, Grant is genuine, at that’s in short supply these days.

I am so grateful to have stumbled across his posts during my son’s Plebe year and humbled to have spent time talking about life as an Academy parent. He’s become such a valuable resource to Mid families and supporters.
