Believe it or not, I actually started working on the playlist for the Class of 2021 Herndon podcast during the Academy’s Spring Break. Life gets in the way, particularly in the way of our hobbies, and it took until now to get it finished.
And it is not at ALL what I planned or expected.
That’s mostly because I invited the Mid-Mom and Mid-Sib to participate. They failed to follow my expected script. Figures. 🙂
You see, to me Herndon is all about celebration. It’s overcoming that last hurdle and getting to the next level. Of all the traditions I’ve experienced thus far, it is without question my favorite. But as I often say, your experience is the right experience and, well, Mid-Mom and Mid-Sib had different experiences. My son even surprised me with his selection, though after hearing it, I realized it really was kinda perfect. I won’t spoil it for you, you can listen for yourself:
I won’t be at the Herndon Climb this year, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to be there. That cathartic moment when that cover sits atop the monument … wow. When I was listening to the final mixdown of the podcast, the memories from last year came flooding through my mind and I have to admit, I got a little choked up. I know not every Mid nor every USNA family has that same experience, but that was our experience. And I hope the families of the Class of 2021 have a great one, too!
I hope you’ll give the podcast a listen and, please, leave some feedback!
